Saturday Night under lights brought the closest result of the season between derby combatants Railways and Kalgoorlie.  In a game that never reached any great heights the closeness of the contest kept the interest up.
Kalgoorlie vice captain Dale Beeson was best afield playing full back for the first three quarters on Railways match winner Michael Towns keeping the goal sneak to one goal, and then when Towns was red carded late in the third quarter Beeson went forward to help his side almost snatch a morale boosting victory being most effective and target for the Roos midfield.  The Roos will rue a series of missed opportunities in the final quarter where they were all over the redlegs only to see Panther youngster Chris Rymer snatch back his side the lead with 90 seconds left on the clock with their only scoring shot of the final quarter. In a strange sort of way an incident in the third quarter when forward Ral Finlayson was being carried from the ground on stretcher may have helped Railways to victory, Finlayson jumped from the stretcher just shy on the boundary line questioning the need for him to be on in in the first place which then left the Roos down one of there key forward options for a good part of the last when Kalgoorlie relentlessly attacked but finished with a poor 3.3 for their domination.  Railways will take the victory but know improvement will be required before the play unbeaten Mines but safe in the knowledge that defenders Brendan Sacilotto, Ryan Armstrong and Carl Armstrong all appear in solid form, while reigning fairest and best James Langley continues to have a great season.  Kalgoorlie aside from Beeson received great service from Wes Miller, Peter Lehman and Deputy vice captain Cameron Brown while skipper David Clark appeared to get through the game with out incident after a recent run of injuries.

Boulder turned the game right around during the third quarter reducing a 26 point half time deficit to trail by 5 points turning for home, but as good sides do the Diorites awoke from their slumber to kick five to one in the last to record an unimpressive 25 point victory sealed with a Jolan Fleay party trick just prior to the final siren with an emaculate banana kick effort from the score board pocket. Again in the absence of full forward Matt James the Diorites found another reliable avenue to goal via Russell Walton who bagged four goals while Trent Moon was creative and had an ally in Chris Brabazon.  The Tigers will bemoan a sluggish first half and the fact they used all their energy in getting back into the game in the third, but pleased with Michael Worthington who played a great game while Clinton Rudd and Daniel Coughlan are rarely found out of the best players.
