A major upset was brewing at half time when the winless Eagles trailed last seasons premiers by 3 points having been in front by the same margin at the first change, but despite the sense of optimism amongst the Kambalda faithful the side only kicked two second half goals, while Railways after a stern address from coach Conan Wheatcroft saw Railways kick 11 second half goals to eventually run away with the game by 57 points.  Michael Towns kicked 5 goals while the midfield received superb service from last seasons Fairest & Best Rickman James Langley.  Skipper David Stubbs once again turned in a great performance for the red and blacks while Brodie Peterson showed some good form on his return to footy after missing 2006 due to injury.  Kambalda Co-Coach Ben Andrews continued a rich vein of form and despite the second half fade out the Eagles have shown some positive signs at times this season with good service in this game from Dylan Ogilvie at half forward and Bendigo recruit Adam Jukes.

Sadly its looking a long season for the Roos who in clear conditions could only manage 3 goals against the league leaders in Mines.  The second half only saw 6 goals kicked in total but 5 of those were to the Diorites who came away from League Headquarters with an easy 62 point victory.
Having only won 4 games in 2006 all against Kambalda, the Diorites have opened this season accounting for all opposition and head the standing by two games and over a 100% advantage for points scored and against.  Gun recruit Matt James was again amongst the goals and now has 19 for the season while teammates also fill 4 of the top 5 in this area with Darrah Doutch 13, Nathan Mourish 10 and Jamie Bolt 7.  A feature of Mines play again was that it is receiving service from all area's of the field so a spread of the workload has fine turned them into a well oiled and cohesive machine and guided by Graeme Borchet who'd be enjoying his coaching role a lot more in 2007.

This weekend a winning opportunity will present for Kambalda and Kalgoorlie as the Roos travel to the Eagles home ground at Kambalda West Oval this Saturday night while Sunday Railways after two weeks away from home host Boulder at Sir Richard Moore Sports Centre, doing battle the first time since the 2006 Grand Final.
