Mines closed out their home and away campaign with a solid win against Kalgoorlie despite a slow start.  The Roos have surprised Mines on the past two occasions but the quality of play by raging Mitchell Medal favourite Trent Moon, the ever consistent and versatile Mark McQueen and younger members of the side in Jolan Fleay, Jason Boyd and Jamie Bolt all amongst the goals saw victory on route to a weeks rest prior to the Second Semi Final clash with Railways.  The Roos will be terribly disappointed with their second and third quarters where they surrendered a positive start but would be pleased to see last seasons Kalgoorlie Miner Footballer of the Year in David Clark back in the best players joined by talented youngster Andrew Cullen and underrated midfielder Steven Uebergang.

For the second consecutive occasion Railways smashed Kambalda this time to the tune of 145 points.  It was a powerful display by last seasons premiers who out pointed the Eagles in all facets of the game.  Despite kicking the first goal, it was then game on for the Panthers who went on a goal scoring rampage with 19 second half goals to 4.  Michael Towns kicked out to draw level with Mines Matt James with 41 for the Dick Robinson Medal for leading goalscorer, and with James and the Diorites having a bye this week, Towns will only need one straight kick to be awarded the medal outright.  Brodie Peterson was outstanding at Centre Half Forward and whilst kicking four goals himself had a direct hand in several others, including two goal assists to Carl Armstrong who kicked a career high five goals.  Anthony Frayne played his best game for Railways in the midfield and was fed with clever ruck work from James Langley and that benefit spread to all Panthers who ventured through the middle and around the clearances.  Even with the lopsided scoreline to Kambalda's credit they attacked every contest but too often were out played and out ran by an impressive Railways side.  Lorrence Farmer tried very hard and kicked three goals while Adam Jukes and Jaye Blechynden had productive moments.  Many in the crowd had come to see Troy Wilson in action at headquarters but with scarce inside 50's his opportunities were limited and only a one goal return for the former East Perth dual Fairest and Best winner.

This Week

Saturday Night Railways travel to Digger Daws to play Boulder, with both sides keen to enter their finals with good form, no injuries or suspensions.  Corey Jones can return to Railways after serving a one match suspension, while the Tigers will be keen to improve on their last two games which saw a flogging at the hands of Mines followed by a last moment win again Kambalda.
Sunday Kambalda finish their season in Kalgoorlie to tackle the Roos at Sir Richard Moore Sports Centre with some big names returning to the black and whites prior to the first semi final in Ruckman Owen Millwood and Forward Murray Pitts while the Eagles would be keen to finish with a competitive performance in a season where they have been better at times than their one win would suggest.

Mitchell Medal

This will be the last vote getting opportunities for the Mitchell Medal which will be announced Monday August 27, with predictions at this stage suggesting Mines Trent Moon as the favourite from Panther Aaron Rymer and Mines Big Man Mark McQueen and Railways Ruckman James Langley
