A big week for Kanga's with Peter Reed stepping down Tuesday night as senior coach, his assistant Neil Boath has taken over the reigns for the balance of 2007 and would have been heartened but also disappointed with what he saw in his first match in charge of the black and whites. The Roos played a great second quarter and challenged early in the last but aside from that lacked surety and skill, but didn't lose the hunger for a contest with both sides more than likely sore after the match in a sometimes bruising encounter. While for the Panthers they again are just doing enough, at times looked as though they could put the game away only to give Kanga's a sniff as evidenced by the scores being level at half time and Kanga's closing to inside a goal early in the last.
Young Panther Aaron Rymer was everywhere in a masterful performance that at times had you thinking it was he v Kangas, ball winning, kicking goals, spoiling, marking Rymer did it all, and this effort was enough to earn best on ground honors even though he was felled in a marking contest just prior to three quarter time and only made his way back on to the field just prior to full time. Veteran Roo Scott Freeman playing his 150th game was yellow carded for the contact made with Rymer which ended his afternoon, which up until then had proved quite fruitful in rebounding many a Railways attack. To continue the Rymer family afternoon Aaron's younger brother Chris who has proven a more than useful shutdown player, killed any impact Kanga's captain David Clark could yield on the game while also gathering valuable possession, while everything started with the Big Man contests which Railways fairest and best winner for the past two seasons James Langley out pointed his opposition a marvelous effort consideration back up ruckman Grant Smith dislocated his knee inside the first 10 minutes of the game, so he did it all on his own and a 50m bomb for goal after the full time siren was just rewards for Langley.
Elsewhere Railways were well served by leadership players Skipper David Stubbs and vice captain Rhett Foster while Brendan Sacilotto was effective when moved midfield in the last and Meshek White is always dangerous around the goals. Justin Langridge is a hard worker and has some real passion for the Roos in his first year but he alone couldn't drag his side to the goodies while Cameron Brown did some great work down back, while Wes Miller never plays a bad game against Railways.

Playing for the Second Annual MacGregor/Kennedy Cup the two arch rivals of boulder town engaged in battle once again. Boulder won the inaugural Cup but meekly handed it over to a Mines machine that has again given due warning to all other sides that they are back on track after some recent indifferent performances. Mines just didn't win this game by 83 points, that belted up and spanked the Tigers which may have some psychological effects should the two meet again in the finals.
Mines were big and strong which was indicated in the primary goal scoring, but also clearly evident in the best players where Marc Johnstone is the only one there under 6 foot and not partial to eating a horse, or this case a Tiger. Boulder Coach Shane Cable clearly identified this as the worst day at the footy for the Tigers this year but like those in attendance not associated with the black and golds, the other team wearing blue and white were to be admired.

This Weekend....
Kambalda return to footy and will be playing their last home game for 2007 and with gun recruit Troy Wilson in the side will fancy themselves against the wounded Tigers, who need to bounce back and bounce back quick.
Its a top of the table clash at Digger Daws with Mines playing Railways in A second semi final Preview, which will also be at the same venue, Railways 3 losses this year have all been heavy at the cost of Mines, and despite playing ok footy, will need to improve dramatically to trouble the league leaders.. |
