Two Days after Kambalda pulled off the season's biggest recruiting announcement of the season in signing former West Perth, East Perth & West Coast Eagles forward in Troy Wilson the Eagles played their worst game of the year.  Kicking with a howling breeze in the first quarter Mark Paperone kicked the second goal of the match to give the Eagles a one point lead but the day then went pear shaped for the home side.  Railways set their win up in this term when kicking three goals against the breeze while Kambalda wasted the few chances they had with only one.  Railways Forward Meshek White set the tone for his afternoon out and found himself with six goals to half time as the Panthers led by Aaron Rymer, Rhett Foster, Stuart Gould and James Langley shut the gate on the game kicking the next 9 first half goals and keeping Kambalda scoreless in the second. The Eagles cause was not helped by two players sent marching with red cards in Ben Perry who has since accepted a one week penalty for striking Peter Nazzari and Matt Freemantle, in Freemantle's case the red card did seem harsh and his case is going before the tribunal for to fight his rough play charge against Panther Troy Simper.  In the second half Railways again outscored Kambalda into the breeze and then rubbed in a dominant performance by kicking eight in the last quarter and again keeping Kambalda scoreless at their clubrooms end.  The Panthers continued to have winners all over the field with usual backman Christian Robinson relishing a forward role pulling in some towering marks while slotting through 3 goals while wingman David Harring at 16 years of age continue's to show what a bright future he has.  Kambalda's only second half goals were scored by midfielder Matt Johnston who was thrown forward in an attempt to shake the tight tag of Chris Rymer while Thomas Grant did win plenty of ball together with Jason Dowling and Jaye Blechynden, but in a day where Kambalda displayed their worst skills the afternoon highlight for the Eagles was simply the return of co coach Ben Andrews who returned to competitive footy after a serious back/neck injury from earlier in the season and was shadowed by the tenacious Craig Stones in an entertaining one on one battle.

Footnote to Railways Goalscorers:...the above is the official listing though observers at the ground had Meshek White kicking 8, Aaron Rymer 3 and David Harring kicking a wonderful running and driving goal which started backwards of centre and the kick from outside 50 bouncing away from the assembled pack through for another Panther Major.

The seasons to biggest upsets go to Kalgoorlie who back to back have upset the league leaders, round 9 Kalgoorlie broke the Diorites then unbeaten run by 3 points and to prove it was no co-incidence the Roos backed this up at the weekend to defeat the League Leaders by 10 points.  In fact the Roos had the lead for most of the game and some late goals by Mines reduced the final margin.  Rhys O'Loughlin was again important in front of goals kicking a third of the Roos final score of Nine while the hard working Justin Langridge was judged best afield.  The result has virtually guaranteed Kalgoorlie finals action and with form like this could still be eying off third position and hosting rights of the First Semi Final.
This game was a match of milestones with Ryan Holman celebrating his 100th game and Deputy Vice Captain Darren Coyle his 50th, while for the Diorites Jamie Bolt played his 50th game, but the biggest of all was the evergreen Brett Turner when the 37 year old strode out on Sir Richard Moore for his 275th GFL appearance (45 with Boulder and now 230 with Mines) this equals the current record held by former Railways and Kambalda Ruckman Larry Middleton and should break the GFL record after the Landmark Carnival Bye when fixtures return for the Diorites July 22 at Kambalda.

The Ladder

Mines Rovers 10 wins from 12 games 162.82%
Railways 8 wins from 11 games 133.95%

This Week
Kalgoorlie travel to Kambalda high on confidence after victory against Mines knowing a win here guarantees finals action while the locals are expecting to flock to the ground and see Troy Wilson's debut for the Eagles and also expecting great improvement from their side after an awful performance against Railways.
While Boulder's Matt Wellstead will play game 204 equaling the Boulder club games record with Brian "Bungey"Hobba against Railways who are expecting some players back which didn't seem to effect the side when thumping Kambalda.

Landmark Carnival
Coach Tom Briggs will conduct final training and Jacket Presentations July 9 to the side to contest the B Section at this years carnival.  The Carnival will be held later that same week and will necessitate a general bye over the weekend of July 15.
