Players Mines Rovers: Trent Moon, Nathan Mourish, Matt James, Jason Boyd

Players Kambalda: Matt Johnston, Jarrod Dubyna, Adam Jukes & Ben
Andrews. Expecting a better showing in 2007 Mines opened
with a blitz and continued to build on their lead before completing a
satisfying 79 point result against Kambalda. Coach Graeme Borchet
will be pleased to see players the caliber of Trent Moon and Russell
Walton (didn't play in this game though) returning to the field in
the blue and white while prime recruit Matt James enjoyed his Diorite
Debut booting 6 goals against his former side where he has been a fairest
and best winner. Joint Player Coaches Ben Andrews and Stephen
Freemantle would have taken some heart from the Eagles performance from
quarter time where the side was only outscored by four goals and
impressive debuts by Matt Johnston, Jarrod Dubyna and Adam Jukes from the
Bendigo League all showed the could find the
footy. Played

Fortune out front of INXS sings "It Aint Pretty" and that describes the
round one contest at Headquarters. Coming into the match with a host
of players missing from last years grand final beaten side the Boulder
Tigers looked at odds to take the match from what appeared a settled
Kalgoorlie. New Coach Shane Cable can be well pleased with his sides
performance and looks to have a bit to work with in 2007 as apart from the
splattering of recruits the Tigers look well placed to use the talents of
players from the successful 2006 colts and reserves. This was
clearly evident in the third quarter when the Tigers wisely used the
breeze assistance Blake
Lawrence in his 4th league game marked his stamp on the game with 3 goals
for the quarter including an on the run banana effort from the GFL house
pocket while Steven Waddington in his 3rd league game and a mini
version of brother Michael who is playing with Subiaco in 07, was a real
livewire and was there awaiting for the ball to come in from Adrian Hooks
long ranged missiles while the usual suspects down back Matt Wellstead and
Jason Rowe were reading the play superbly with young Levi Roos showing
some calmness also in defence. So after the third quarter dominance
from the Tigers to lead by 19points Kalgoorlie coach Peter Reed urged the
Roos to respond which they did to close the gap to a kick a couple of
times during the last but late goals to Damian Dunlea and Steven
Waddington saw the Tigers record a 12 point victory. For the Roos
Rhys O'Loughlin made the most of opportunities with 3 goals, Big Dale
Beeson again was lion hearted for the black and whites and David Clark
played well through the midfield. If the
Roos loss was hard to take they now must face up to reigning premiers
Railways this Wednesday Night who had the benefit of a first round
bye, while Kanga's with only a full 2 day break must butter up after quite
warm Sunday conditions a situation that would require careful management
by the Roos Coaching Staff, though after such a disappointing first up
effort you'd hope the players would appreciate the earlier opportunity to
redeem themselves. Tiger
Daniel Coughlan will bring up game 100 as the Derby Contest at Digger Daws
this Thursday will have some added zest given both sides impressive start
to 2007. Mines will benefit from marginal more time between games
and do look set for an impressive year while Boulder will more than likely
go into the clash without Ben Gabbedy with what looked a pretty serious
rib injury, and Clinton Rudd who looked like he'd twinged a hammie during
Sundays victory against Kalgoorlie. Stay
