Player Coach Shane Properjohn in his second year in charge of the Roos opened their 2009 campaign in style with a brutal final quarter to finish winners by 73 points. Last Seasons grand finalists Kambalda have suffered some key player losses in the off season most notably 08 Mitchell Medalist Matt Johnston who is playing league football with East Perth, Jaye Fisher and John Doran who have returned interstate, so second year coach Stan Ward does face some challenges hereafter, who did harbor some glimmer of hope trailing by 27 points at the final change, but a scoreless final quarter so the margin almost triple.

Defending Premiers Mines Rovers under the new coaching leadership of Sean Millane copped a rude awaking to season 2009. Millane who is well known in VFL circles with Dandenong has brought teammate Daniel Casset to the Diorites and he debuted well kicking 6 of Mines 7 goals but in the end copped a big margin to the tune of 81 points. Railways who finished 3rd in 2008 opened the season with great fitness and purpose and Kody Kelman returning after two seasons interstate strengthens and already handy forward line and his Eight goals was a grand performance and would have pleased Conan Wheatcroft returning for season number 4 at Pantherland and key play makers like Rhett Foster, Aaron Rymer, David Stubbs and Sean O’Keefe, whilst Michael Blacker returning to league ranks at the Panthers demonstrated he still holds much talent. |
