This game immediately followed the WAFL clash between Subiaco and Peel Thunder where by Subiaco won by a massive 157 points, so naturally the big crowd at the ground were seeking a contest between 3rd and 4th on the ladder. The Roos started the best but still found themselves behind at the half and things didn’t get much better thereafter as Boulder coasted to victory to the tune of 37 points. The Tigers would be well pleased with the result given some key players remain on the sidelines and with the club parting ways with former AFL player Marty McGrath earlier in the week. Chad Broughton who has WAFL experience played his best game for the Tigers while Chris Maguire despite battling injury still converted 3 goals to take his season tally to 21, to lead by 4 over teammate Damian Dunlea who has kicked 17. The Roos would have been left very disappointed with their performance with player coach Shane Properjohn out for a few weeks with a hamstring concern.

This was the clash between 1 and 2 on the ladder, Kambalda who were the number one suffered pre match with a wrist injury to gun forward James Murray and hence the forward line required some adjustment, though the Eagles led the match at half time. The game was played in warm conditions and the scoreboard reflected a wet and dour day, but particulary early both sides found it difficult to score. The Diorites emerged from half time and the forfeit controversy from recent weeks to outscore the Eagles 6 goals to 2 and hence remained in control for the balance of the match to emerge victorious by 29 points. Rob Hansen was again amongst the goals to take his season tally to 16, while smaller players Cameron Allen, Travis Hart, Nick Willis and Chris Brabazon all enjoyed fruitful afternoons, while for Kambalda don’t be surprised that when the Mitchell Medal votes are read for this game that Matt Johnston gets top votes as he was tireless and never gave in and finished Kambalda’s top goal contributor with 2, and while he was playing so well the Eagles lived with some hope, he just need more mates to follow. Jaye Belchynden was effective across half back while Matt Freemantle entered every contest with Ernest. As if the Diorites don’t need to get any stronger playing across the backline and running forward to kick a most impressive goal was Luke Pritchard who looks a very likely type.
This Weekend is Rivalry Round.
Saturday night at Sir Richard Moore is a must win clash for Railways who have failed to salute in 2008, last seasons beaten grand finalists will fall 3 games behind Kalgoorlie and that is almost season ending stuff should that not muster a victory. While Sunday at Digger Daws Oval Boulder and Mines hope to re-produce the contest of round one when the result was less than a kick, so in this case Boulder will be hoping to reverse the trend and do enter this game in reasonable touch.
