At the conclusion of Round 5 Kambalda are on top of the ladder, a scenario only the bravest and staunchest Eagles supporters may have proudly announced prior to the season starting.  It is not hard to be all but impressed how Stan Ward has team have performed this season and have now got themselves placed perfectly for their first serious assault at finals action for many years, with 1993 being the last time they played off in a Grand Final.  The Eagles are a very quick side and have benefited from the pace of Neil and Tim Champion, and overjoyed at the surprise return to action by champion on baller and last season co-coach Ben Andrews.  Like recent weeks the game was on the line at three quarter time only for Kambalda to hit the power button to run away 19 point victors.  Roos Captain Dale Beeson kicked four goals and was best for his black and whites, while Luke Taylor was useful around the goals with 3.  Roos Player Coach Shane Properjohn will miss up to 2-3 in aggravating a hamstring during this game.

After a siesta in Round 4, football was back at Headquarters in a ripping clash of the cats, with the Tiger variety prevailing over the winless Panthers by 3 points.  From the first bounce it was game on with Boulder taking control of the game after conceding the first two goals, but in an afternoon where the quarters seemed to go longer than the usual 20 minutes plus time on, the last quarter went in fact for 33 minutes, and despite 13 goals being kicked in the last and with no major delays or injuries the 13 minutes time on was interesting as Railways flew home with a wet sail to almost pinch the match after trailing by as much as 4 goals during the last.

Its been many a year that Railways have gone through Series one with four losses with margins being 7 points, 2 points, 47 points and now 3 points, but are showing some positive signs though will miss Roland Morrison who was suspended for one week for striking during the first quarter.  Boulder undergoing a mini transition with Shane Cable to leave the region due to employment essentially handed the reigns to Brad George who has been involved in premierships at both clubs, and would have been most pleased with the performance of Lindsay Woods and Chris Maguire who finished with 6 hard earned goals.  Young Gun Scott Worthington made his league debut and impressed in some passages of play and the Tigers also have players of the caliber of Daniel Coughlan, Shannon Penny, Nathan Papertalk and Colin Harvey who was injured during this game to select in future games.  For Railways youngster Chris Rymer did a great quelling job on Damian Dunlea who was the competitions leading goalscorer entering this game and kept the live wire to one goal, while James Langley the 2007 Mitchell Medallist was again very good as was youngster David Marinovich with five goals, and Dave Harring who worked hard through the midfield.  Railways will have players like Michael Towns, Paul Funazzi and Troy Gavin available in coming games.
