Heartbreak for Railways after leading basically from the first bounce, a full points conversion on the run from Diorite Leigh Mourish with only moments left on the clock and then a couple of behinds propelled the Diorites to their third straight narrow victory and are proving masters of the close finish after being 17 points the better of Kambalda in round One and last week 4 points over Boulder in Round 2. The Panthers performance was creditable given they were missing leading goal scorer in Michael Towns and had failed to score a goal in two quarters last week to Kalgoorlie but the final siren would have brought immense disappointment and find themselves in rare ground now being bottom of the GFL Ladder and winless after two games. In contrast the Diorites occupy first position and look dangerous having won 3 games when results in all could have gone different ways. Russell Walton was fantastic with 5 goals while last weeks 9 goal hero skipper Rob Hansen kicked 2, while for Railways Defender turned Forward Christian Robinson enjoyed his freedom to attack with 4 goals while first gamer David Marinovich impressed plenty with his two goals and poise in general play.

Have Kambalda arrived?, after pushing last years Premiers Mines in Round 1, they faced up to a Boulder side in pretty good form, and too the delight of all and sundry in the Nickel town duly delivered to secure their first victory over the Tigers in just shy of 6 years. This victory should give Kambalda some faith and confidence and it appears Coach Stan Ward has assembled a squad that should give them some celebrations during their 40th year. In a close game Kambalda closed out victory In the last and the talented James Murray sealed the issue with two minutes left on the clock. For Boulder Damian Dunlea was again sparkling up forward and now leads the goalkicking tally for the GFL with 14 goals, while profile recruits Marty McGrath and Dion Woods both suffered injury that may keep them sidelined for a few weeks.
Next Week Saturday Night Kambalda host Railways while Sunday Mines are away from Digger Daws for the first time in 2008 when they play Kalgoorlie at Sir Richard Moore Sports Centre.
