At the twenty minute mark of the Second Quarter Railways were 10 goals and Kambalda 2, goalscorers at that Point for the Panthers was David Marinovich 8 and Ryan Stubbs 2, it was an awesome opening by Marinovich who continued his superb touch from the past two weeks, granted he didn’t salute the big sticks for the balance of the game but when he became well held Railways other options came into play.  Sean O’Keeffe brought his own footy and had wonderful midfield support from Rhett Foster, Aaron Rymer and David Stubbs in the second half Christian Robinson became an option while Ryan Stubbs was still ever so nimble around the sticks to finish with his best haul of 08 with five goals.  The Eagles were unsettled by the late exclusion of Troy Wilson who didn’t play due to the flu but the Railways defence was so frugal even if the big guy had played there may have only been a small dent in the 93 point demolition.  James Murray tried hard and Matt Johnston played as a permanent forward due to some back concerns but the rebound of Andrew Coxall, the poise of Brodie Peterson, the effective tag on Johnston by Chris Rymer, the guile of 100 gamer Cory Jones and the calmness of Tall Defender Tristan Burgoyne saw off virtually all Kambalda attacks.  With Johnston in the forward line it left a large hole in the Eagles midfield where the Freemantle brothers and Jay Fisher tried hard but were beaten soundly in the end.

With the game in hand it did allow Roland Morrison some time off the field after his masterful recent performances which allowed Ryan Armstrong and Graham Wright some time on the ball and ensured a good battle with the Eagles best in Chris Skidmore.

The win has secured Railways second spot while Kambalda must win this weekend against Kalgoorlie while hope Railways defeat Boulder to earn a home final 1st Semi Final where the experts have been sent to the record books to see when Kambalda last hosted a final series game.

To celebrate 150 years of AFL football the Mines Rovers put on a football clinic to record a 150 point victory over the hapless Roos.  For the second time this year Kalgoorlie have copped an angry Mines on the rebound and on both occasions have been savaged by the blue and whites, with 10 goalkickers joining the Diorite party while Kalgoorlie failed to score in the final quarter which absolutely sealed the deal on the 08 wooden spoon.  The Diorites have been clearly the best performed in the home and away season and have a final round bye before hosting a second semi final date with Railways who have defeated them in the past two clashes including one at Digger Daws Oval.  A season which started with much optimism for the Roos and has included two wins against Railways, a win and draw versus Boulder and a single victory over Kambalda has not been enough to play finals footy.

This Week Round 20 Final Home and Away Matches.

Railways high on confidence and knowing they are a week away from a Second Semi Final Date with Mines Rovers, will be wanting to overcome Boulder at Digger Daws Oval who know a victory over the Panthers will see them host the following Saturday Week First Semi Final.  The other item of interest will be the battle for the Dick Robinson Medal where Panther David Marinovich reduced the margin to 5 from Tiger Chris Maguire after 22 goals in his past 3 games.

Kalgoorlie will play their last game for 08 when the play host to Kambalda, both sides had awful results in Round 19 and the Eagles have some incentive on winning this game and casting an eye to Digger Daws Oval where a Boulder defeat will have them host the First Semi Final.

Mines Rovers have the bye and can enjoy a slight respite before taking a home ground advantage into Sunday weeks Second Semi Final.

Mitchell Medal Count Monday August 25th @ The Tower Hotel.

Final votes for this seasons Mitchell Medal will provide opportunity to four clubs for the regions most prestigious individual prize.

Fancies for the Medal will come from.

Kalgoorlie: Scott Haythornthwaite, Shane Properjohn & Nick Hay, though its unlikely the 08 winner will be a Roo.

Kambalda: Matt Johnston is clear favourite for the award, though won’t see any votes from Round 19 v Railways, so a big performance against the Roos might ensure Kambalda has the Medal for the first time since 1996.  Chris Skidmore, Jay Fisher and Tyron Ward should poll ok.

Boulder: Chris Maguire, should poll well, youngsters Chayne George and Scott Worthington may loom likely with John Grandile.

Railways: David Marinovich may poll big in his select games, while Sean O’Keeffe will have 10 possible games of 16 to poll votes and is expected to figure in the finish, Roland Morrison has been fabulous with 07 winner James Langley missing big slices of the season while Vice Captain Rhett Foster has been consistent.

Mines Rovers: Like Marinovich, Rob Hansen will poll maximums in some games but is ineligible due to suspension, Cameron Allen has been great returning to the GFL after time with Subiaco, the evergreen Brett Turner will pop up with votes, Mark McQueen has enjoyed another solid 2008 while Justin Langridge, Steve Dewar, Nick Willis and Mitch Graham have enjoyed excellent seasons.
