In the last few weeks the GFL has had the following occur.

Boulder and Kalgoorlie play out a draw, the following week Kalgoorlie’s improved form see’s them defeat Railways, while Boulder are no match for Mines, then the next round Boulder run over Kambalda, while Railways pull off the upset of the season by beating Mines, then this week Mines blast Kalgoorlie off the park restricting them to one single goal for the whole match while Railways travel to Kambalda high on confidence after the Mines Defeat only to have their pants pulled down by Kambalda who play their best football since April. Footy Tipping Anyone ?!.

In a clear, cold and blustery day Mines Rovers embarrassed Kalgoorlie with a dominant display from the moment the coin was tossed.  Calling correct and kicking with the breeze to the hospital end Mines had 3 goals on the board within the first 5 minutes en route to a dominant 8 goal first quarter to Nil, which consigned the match as a no contest there after.  Kanga’s whom had beaten Railways from their last start, only to see that opposition dish out the Diorites first “on field” loss on 08 would have fancied their chances but to be held goalless and end up with one single goal over four quarters would have left more than a somber mood amongst Shane Properjohn’s troops.  The message was clear that a rebounding Mines Rovers are not be messed with and given they entered the game without Rob Hansen (suspension), Russell Walton, Mark McQueen, Dave Hansford and Chris Brabazon who injured a hamstring after starting the game so sprightly and kicked a wonderful goal from the Kanga’s pocket. The Roos have little time to rebound as they travel to Kambalda this Sunday and would be expecting a performance to regain some lost pride.

With key forward James Murray back in the side and kicking 6 goals Kambalda, undid Railways good work of the previous week with an easy victory on home soil.  The win Kambalda’s best since the early rounds gave them outright 3rd position and were led brilliantly by Tyrone Ward.  The Eagles had complete control on the contest and only some respectability to the scoreboard in the final quarter saved Railways from a bigger defeat.  It’s hard to fathom how the Panthers could lose the desire and effort of the previous week, though this in no means can down play the positive football and important crunch game victory gained by Kambalda.

The sides have traded home victories this year with Kambalda now having two easy home wins, whilst Railways the same in the Second Series.

This Week Round 15.

Both games can shape all positions from 2nd to 5th, with Railways at home to Boulder, when they last met at Sir Richard Moore Boulder prevailed by 3 points whilst the most recent clash at Digger Daws had Railways victorious by 40 points.  Boulder had the bye last week and like the average Joe supporter would have been bemused by results of Round 14. Kalgoorlie face a most difficult task in tackling Kambalda in the Nickel Town, Kambalda have enjoyed some recent success against the Roos and enter this game having won both contests (home and away) by margins of 19 and 13 points.

The Ladder

Mines Rovers 10 wins from 11 games 1 Forfeit 40 points 161.12%

Boulder 5 wins from 11 games 1 Draw 22 points 100.92%

Kambalda 5 wins from 11 games 20 points 92.02%

Railways 4 wins from 11 games 16 points 91.24%

Kalgoorlie 3 wins from 11 games 1 Draw 14 points 68.71

This Week.

A Mines side on the rebound is the daunting task that face’s Kalgoorlie at Sir Richard Moore Sports Centre this Sunday, the Roos who last start defeated Railways were the only side in 2007 to defeat Mines Rovers (twice), should the Roos be able to muster the same sort of upset as Railways of this week against Mines then they could find themselves back in the four.

At Kambalda the Eagles will wish to reverse a worrying form slump since starting the season so positively and would enjoy the challenge of hosting Railways whom defeated them by over 10 goals last start.  The Eagles are a different proposition at Kambalda and despite Railways performance against Mines Rovers will need to be at full attention to give that victory some real value and give themselves a game break inside the four should they be successful over Kambalda.
